A Weekend in Umbria

Discovering Perugia's tranquility and Assisi's spiritual beauty

Spent a wonderful weekend exploring the heart of Umbria with my girlfriend. Perugia charmed us with its peaceful medieval streets and tranquil atmosphere, while Assisi captivated us with its spiritual heritage and countless churches. The highlight was witnessing an incredible sunset that painted the entire sky in shades of red and orange - a natural spectacle we'll never forget.

Solving Klotski Without Help

From manual solving to building an automated solver

I challenged myself to solve Klotski without any external help, spending hours exploring different strategies. The breakthrough came when I discovered a set-based approach that identifies key intermediate positions from which the puzzle becomes solvable. This insight led Daniele and me to build a complete solver: the script first explores all possible board states, then uses Dijkstra's algorithm working backwards from the goal state (where the 2×2 block reaches the exit) to find the optimal solution path. It was fascinating to see how a manual solving strategy could be formalized into an elegant algorithmic solution.

A Weekend in Marburg

Visiting friends, exploring forests, and solving puzzles

Spent a wonderful weekend in Marburg, a charming small city near Frankfurt, visiting my best friend and another close friend. We explored the picturesque old town with its winding cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, enjoyed a lovely brunch together, and took long walks through the surrounding forests. The highlight? When we got back, we decided to tackle Klotski together and ended up writing a Python script to solve it. There's something special about combining good company, beautiful scenery, and a shared puzzle-solving challenge.

My Sudoku Obsession

Falling down the Cracking The Cryptic rabbit hole

I've become completely hyperfixated on sudokus after discovering Cracking The Cryptic on YouTube. Watching Simon Anthony solve the most impossibly complex variant sudokus is both inspiring and humbling. I'm now attempting to solve puzzles before watching his solutions, but there's clearly a massive gap between my amateur skills and his genius-level pattern recognition. The journey from basic 9x9 grids to sandwich sudokus and killer variants has been addictive.

Corsica: The Other Mediterranean Jewel

Seven days discovering France's island paradise

Just returned from a week in Corsica and I'm convinced it's Sardinia's equally beautiful twin sister. The island offers everything you'd expect - stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and genuinely warm locals who made every interaction memorable. While the famous beaches like Palombaggia were predictably packed, the real magic happened during those spontaneous hikes that led to completely secluded coves. Sometimes the best discoveries come from simply walking away from the crowds.

Benevolenza Cosmica by Fabio Bacà

A delightful read about extraordinary luck

During my holidays I read Benevolenza Cosmica by Fabio Bacà. The story follows Kurt O'Reilly, a statistician who spends three months experiencing nothing but good luck, as if everything around him is perfectly aligned. The writing is smooth and easy to follow, the plot is funny and engaging, and the ending is surprising but fits perfectly with his journey. I definitely suggest this book if you want a break and are looking for something light and enjoyable to read.
